Designed as a place to slow down, this pool and spa create a natural gathering point for family life beyond the rush of the day.

 

This client wanted to create a space at home that genuinely invited the whole family to slow down and spend time together. With two school-aged boys, life can be busy and quite structured, and they were looking for something that would draw them outside, away from screens and schedules. The pool was to become that anchor.

Custom designed for the family, this tranquil poolscape with an integrated spa and calm, open layout encourages time outdoors, where the presence of water gently shifts the pace and brings everyone together. “There is something about water that changes the pace of the day. It settles everyone,” they told us when the project was complete.

“Now it is finished, what we value most is how naturally it brings us together. We spend hours in and around the pool, whether it is the boys playing, us sitting in the spa, or simply being nearby in the garden. The spa has been a quiet revelation, extending our pool use well beyond summer and making the space feel alive even on cooler days. We also find real enjoyment in the care of the pool. Cleaning the pool is not a chore, it is almost meditative. You cannot rush skimming leaves, so you do it slowly, and that rhythm becomes part of the experience.

The design has created more than a pool, it has created a place. It feels like there is permission to relax when you are there, which is rare in everyday life. It has changed how we use our outdoor area entirely. What was once just a garden is now a destination, not only for us but for friends and family. It is a space for connection, and for quiet moments, and it has become one of the most valued parts of our home.”

I was born in Canada, and grew up around Vancouver and the mountains of British Columbia. My love of pristine environments led me to New Zealand and eventually to the mountains, lakes and rivers of the central North Island which is home. My family’s heritage is here, and it’s from here that Korio traverses the planet.
