Designed to work around a council easement and an elevated site, this Murrays Bay pool features a cantilevered weir, custom privacy wall, and seamless integration with the upper deck. The result is a private, elevated retreat that makes the most of the view—without compromising on form or function.

 

This striking pool build was designed to meet a unique set of site challenges while delivering a contemporary result. The pool needed to sit level with the upper deck for seamless access and uninterrupted coastal views. However, with a Council pipe running parallel to the rear boundary, a creative structural solution was required.

To avoid building over the pipe, the weir section of the pool was cantilevered above ground—allowing for safe clearance while adding a visually dramatic floating effect. On the north side, a raised stone-clad wall provides both privacy from the neighbouring property and a naturalistic backdrop, complete with a cascading waterfall feature.

The pool colour was selected to evoke a natural ambience that blends beautifully with the surrounding coastal landscape. Frameless glass fencing and modern finishes complete the look, resulting in a private, elevated retreat that’s as functional as it is visually impressive.

I was born in Canada, and grew up around Vancouver and the mountains of British Columbia. My love of pristine environments led me to New Zealand and eventually to the mountains, lakes and rivers of the central North Island which is home. My family’s heritage is here, and it’s from here that Korio traverses the planet.
